Wooler School is a rare and important example of the Prairie School of architecture and we plan to restore and sustain the Wooler School as a multipurpose community and activity space and, in so doing, preserve the history of this important building and of Wooler itself.
We are currently raising funds to support the restoration of the old schoolhouse through GoFundMe.

The Wooler & Area Community Organisation (“WACO”) was founded in 2020 by a group of volunteers with deep connections to the Wooler community who are dedicated to the preservation of the Old Wooler School as a resource for the Wooler and area community. Our vision is to restore and sustain the Old Wooler School as a multipurpose community activity space and centre to help preserve Wooler and area history.
We believe that the Wooler School is a rare and important example of the Prairie School of architecture applied in an institutional context and is worth of preservation. We are doing heritage research on Wooler School and our community.
We have assembled an impressive team of volunteers committed to saving this building, from architects and design strategists to heritage experts, business leaders, senior government bureaucrats, marketing experts, construction contractors, and craftspeople, all with local and even international reputations. We want to designate Wooler School under the Ontario Heritage Act and restore and sustain it to provide desperately-needed multipurpose community activity space.
